Work with your BODY, not against it!

By blog No Comments

Christmas is a distant memory, but Spring seems a long way away as I sit writing this blog with the snow falling, and the temperatures are still dropping.

For some it’s very difficult to remain enthused and optimistic in our quest for being our fittest healthiest versions of ourselves, and we may just feel like shelving it until the days are longer again and the temperature rises.

However, summer bodies are made in winter!! We just need to dig deep for our mojo and remember the time will pass anyway, so why not use our time wisely.

There are many different ways and methods to help you lose weight/lead a healthy lifestyle, and you just need to find out what works for you as it’s never a ‘one size fits all’ plan.

Work WITH your body and not AGAINST it.

Work out what makes you feel good and what is easy for you to sustain. For me, as I love my food and drink, I know I simply HAVE to move on a daily basis to eat what I want without ‘guilt’. I don’t ever believe you should worry about eating cake or drinking wine!

You may argue the fact that as it is my job it’s easy for me to move a lot, but the fact of the matter is I sit down A LOT in my gym. The time spent in there is my client’s hour and not mine to work out in. I may on an odd time walk on the treadmill to keep me warm in winter, but 9 times out of 10 I’m sat down on the bench nattering and encouraging my girls.

It’s the ‘takeaway’ value from our sessions that equal the success.  When we have forged new habits, improved our mindset and self-confidence, it’s easier to let go of any self -limiting beliefs.

Remember you are UNIQUE, and you CAN do anything you want to do to improve your health and fitness.

Making small consistent steps, and seeing and feeling how much better you are is such a great way of boosting your self-confidence and mindset.

I don’t ever want my clients to feel they are ‘failing’ so we set goals that are reasonable, and sometimes we have to re visit the goals and tweak them in order to get the desired outcome. I believe on building on small changes that are sustainable, and encourage my girls to do SOMETHING every SINGLE day even if it is just a decent paced power walk. I am also all about eating home cooked meals, getting good quality sleep and looking after ourselves mentally as well as physically.

So rather than waiting for the longer, warmer days decide what you want right NOW and move with commitment towards it. Decide you will make 2019 YOUR year to shine… create a life you love, and a body you love living in.

Keep warm and safe

Winter months are here…

By blog No Comments

Hello to the lovely Autumn days and darker longer evenings, however it’s a tough few weeks for remaining motivated in our goals for health and fitness.

Apparently 4 in 10 of us gain 5lb or more throughout the winter months.

This is possibly due to all we really want to do is to snuggle up on the sofa binge watching TV and eating comfort food, and we are digging out our winter clothes which means covering our arms and legs up more.

Admittedly, Christmas can seem a long way away and our bodies are in a bit of a transition. We aren’t really too concerned at this stage thinking about Christmas party dresses.

We need some MOTIVATION!! But unfortunately, motivation is a MYTH!!

We can keep waiting until we are ‘motivated’ like we are waiting for a bus.

But it’s not going to just HAPPEN.

We need to make it happen.

We need to be disciplined and committed to our goals no matter what.

We need to push through on days when we may not feel like it, no matter what.

Shorter days can lead to low mood, so spend as much time as possible outdoors to boost your vitamin D and energy levels. (I always take a vitamin D supplement from October until the end of March even though I feel my diet is good).

A short walk at lunchtime can easily boost your mood and it’s a great way to get a short burst of exercise in.

Squeezing in some kind of daily exercise; before work/after work/on your lunch really can make a difference to how you feel.

Taking control and sticking to a routine all adds up to big changes in your lifestyle.

Keep your trainers in your car, or in your drawer at work and at every opportunity pop them on and GO!!

20 minutes power walking x 5 days per week is 1 hour and 40 minutes of basic activity which is a GREAT platform to work with each week.

Consider asking for a SAD light for Christmas, I bought my son one last year and it really did help him with getting up on dark mornings… I must get it out again for him!!

So, remember, YOU CAN DO THIS! YOU CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR GOALS, small changes can add up to BIG RESULTS.

A person who really wants something will find a way. A person who doesn’t will always find an excuse.

Have a lovely October

WHAT DOES GETTING “BIKINI READY” MEAN FOR ME?

By blog No Comments

I LOVE my holidays, and getting myself in tiptop condition is as much a part of the excitement and preparation as booking and packing for a holiday.

I want to look great.. Just for ME!

I would like to be able to look back on photos when I’m an old lady (hopefully!!) and think, Wow! I looked great as a 30 year old mum of 2, 40 year old mum of 4, 50 year old mum of 4 and grandma of 1 etc etc.

I know if I work hard and eat well before I go, then I’ll feel as good as I can in my bikini, my skin will be better and I’ll be able to enjoy the holiday without holding back. I also know that I will definitely be carrying extra lbs and inches after a few days and I’m happy to “roll” with that!

I also LOVE to plan what to wear to the airport, and even have the same airport outfit that I have worn on the outward flight for the last 10 years !!

EVERYBODY has a “bikini body” to work with.

EVERYBODY deserves to strut with pride… it’s an outward reflection of your journey with health and fitness so far. (It doesn’t mean it’s the end).

A few pounds overweight, love handles, stretch marks, too small boobs, too big boobs etc etc, none of these things matter, it’s about working with what you have and getting to a place where you’re happy.

Feel free to contact me to see how I can help and inspire you to make lifestyle changes for a healthier, fitter, happier you.. and you never know you may find YOUR bikini body at the end 👙

IT’S SPRING TIME WHICH IS A PERFECT TIME TO DECLUTTER YOUR HOUSE .. BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR MIND??

By blog No Comments

Go on a mind diet, let go of what you have no control over. Accept what comes your way in life as a gift or an opportunity to learn.. even if you don’t always agree.

Learn to relax. Doing nothing is good for the soul, and an important part of the balance in our lives.

Watch what you eat. A healthy mind needs food which is grown, picked, reared or caught from the sea. Avoid processed food.

Exercise that’s right for you. Yes, ideally, we should all exercise 3 x per week, BUT one day you may only be able to fit in a 10min power walk and another day you may be able to do an hour. Work out what you can fit into your lifestyle.

Sleep when you’re tired. If your body is crying out for a mid-afternoon 10 min power nap and you can do this. Do it. Don’t have too long a sleep during the day though, and don’t nap early evening as that will distort your sleeping patterns. It’s not the best to have lie-ins, you’re better getting up and starting the day well. (more on sleep in future blogs).

Engage your senses. Being able to touch, smell, listen and taste are natures senses. Don’t take them for granted. Anything that makes you feel good will invoke good thoughts. This may be the nicest breakfast ever (like me the other week in Searcy’s champagne bar at St Pancreas London) or the sound of waves on the beach when you’re on holiday.

Appreciate what’s good in life. It’s important to have a few things in your life that you’re grateful for.
